I’m a little over a week into my 30-day challenge, following a whole food plant-based diet with the help of MamaSezz. Last week, Meg (co-creater) and Caroline (head chef), told me that it would take about a week or so to really start seeing significant changes to my body since for the first week, my body was essentially “detoxing”… as I was pumping it full of nutrient heavy food, the sludge and the processed crap was being released… and I would say, it took about 8 days for my system to “catch up”.

Any time you suddenly change your diet, your body will react… for me, I became really bloated for about a week. I’m guessing it’s because I was suddenly eating cups and cups of vegetables, and a high fiber diet, which was definitely not my regular diet beforehand. Food that is high in complex carbohydrates like beans, broccoli, onions, corn, lettuce, even cucumbers, can cause gas, bloating and discomfort… I just started taking “Beano” pills before my meals, and it has helped tremendously. My body just isn’t used to processing all these healthy foods?! Imagine that!

So NOW that things seem to be more on track, I have lost a little weight, but I feel the inches are dropping off. Overall, I don’t miss meat or dairy like I thought I would. The hardest part for me is to not snack after dinner. My husband and I would often share something while watching TV, and while sometimes it was a healthier option like chips and salsa, or pretzels and hummus, it was usually something higher in fat, sugar and/or sodium. I find myself now REALLY wanting snacks still at that time of the night… and on the times I’ve given in, I’ve grabbed a piece of fruit, or some fresh veggies to munch on.

One thing I haven’t really talked about is the extra prep work that does go into the day to day meal plans… while MamaSezz does provide you with your “main” meals (shipped right to your door every week – super convenient!)… you will also need to purchase fresh produce every week to accompany your meals. I’d recommend taking some time toward the beginning of the week and washing and chopping up all your fresh veggies so they’re easy to grab and add to salads, or to bring as a snack to dip in dressing.

Thanks for reading — I’ll have another update in a couple days! 🙂
